Endearing from Allah to Muhammad (S): The Prophet (S) was not referred to by Allah as 'O Muhammad" but as 'O wrapped up one'. The aim is endearment i.e. to speak kindly to someone by referring to them by some quality which will make them feel happy.

Endearment in hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (S) used this when speaking to his companions as well, he said Ali  once  «قم أبا تراب» 'Stand O father of the sand'. On the night on the battle of ditch the Prophet (S) said to Al-Hudhayfah قم يا نومان 'Stand O very sleepy one'.  Remember the key to using an endearing term is the effect on the person and intention of the person using it.
